LUDOVIC POIRIER JOINS HOUSTON’S AWARD-WINNING VOICE RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE AT HOTEL ICON AS RESTAURANT GENERAL MANAGER
HOUSTON, TX – December xx, 2008 – Hospitality veteran Ludovic Poirier has been appointed general manager of VOICE restaurant and lounge at Hotel ICON, located in the heart of downtown Houston’s historic district. Since opening in April 2008, VOICE has earned popular and critical acclaim for its regionally inspired Modern American cuisine served in one of the city’s most spectacular dining rooms, the soaring, turn-of-the-century lobby of the former Union National Bank building. Under the direction of Chef Michael Kramer, VOICE was recently selected by Esquire magazine as one of the country’s top 20 new restaurants. Prior to joining VOICE, Poirier was general manager of 17 restaurant at the Alden Hotel, also in Houston.
Poirier brings more than xx years of international experience to his role with a focus on overseeing the signature restaurants of top hotels around the world. Following his graduation from catering school in Laval, France, he trained in Paris at the prestigious Residence Maxim’s and later at the famed Hotel Ritz’s L’Espadon, named “Best Hotel Restaurant in Paris.” He also served as butler to the Minister of Defense, rendering service in his residence, including private dinners and receptions.
In 1991, Poirier relocated to the United States to accept a position as hotel/restaurant captain at the Wheatleigh, in Lenox, MA. Under Poirier’s leadership, the Five Diamond Wheatleigh dining room received the “Dirona Award for Distinguished Dining.” Two years later, Poirier moved to Melbourne, Australia to provide fine dining service for The Regent Hotel, subsequently recognized as “Best Accommodation Hotel Restaurant” by the Australian Hotels Association.
Poirier returned to the United States and settled in Houston in 1996. He first served as food and beverage manager for Deville restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel and later oversaw the transformation of the venue to Quattro. In 2002, he accepted the position of restaurant manager for the St. Regis hotel. Under his guidance, Remington earned recognition as a Four Diamond restaurant. Locally, Poirier is best known for his role as director of operations for Bistro Moderne, the highly regarded French restaurant which he opened at Hotel Derek.
